Key Terms

尺码 Size. Use this when asking about clothing or shoe sizes.

这个有我的尺码吗？ Zhège yǒu wǒ de chǐmǎ ma? Do you have this in my size?

小号 / 中号 / 大号 Small, medium, and large sizes. These are common words for clothing sizes.

我穿中号。 Wǒ chuān zhōng hào. I wear medium.

大一号 / 小一号 One size larger / one size smaller. Use these after trying something on.

有大一号的吗？ Yǒu dà yí hào de ma? Do you have one size larger?

颜色 Color. You can ask whether the item is available in black, white, or other colors.

未拆封 Unopened or still sealed. Use this when you want a new item that has not been opened or displayed.

有新的未拆封的吗？ Yǒu xīn de wèi chāifēng de ma? Do you have a new unopened one?

Trying-on Flow

Step 1: Ask for your size

Say 这个有我的尺码吗？ or directly say your size, such as 我穿中号.

Step 2: Ask for color options

Ask 有黑色的吗？, 有白色的吗？, or 有其他颜色吗？ depending on what you want.

Step 3: Try it on

For clothes, say 我可以试穿吗？ For shoes, say 我可以试一下这双鞋吗？

Step 4: Describe the fit

After trying it on, say if it is too big, too small, too tight, too loose, or just right.

Useful Size and Color Patterns

有……吗？ Use this to ask whether the store has a size, color, or item.

有大号吗？ Yǒu dà hào ma? Do you have a large size?

有……的吗？ Use this when asking for an item with a specific feature, such as a color or size.

有黑色的吗？ Yǒu hēisè de ma? Do you have it in black?

这个有点…… Use this to describe that something is a little too big, small, tight, or loose.

这个有点小。 Zhège yǒu diǎn xiǎo. This is a little too small.

我想要…… Use this to say what you would like to buy.

我想要这件。 Wǒ xiǎng yào zhè jiàn. I would like this one.

Fit and Comfort Tips

Too big or too small

Use 这个有点大 or 这个有点小. Then ask for one size larger or smaller.

Shoes: tight or loose

For shoes, use 这双鞋有点紧 or 这双鞋有点松. 双 is the measure word for a pair of shoes.

Just right

Use 这个正合适 when the size, fit, or comfort is just right.

Use 件 for many clothing items: 这件衣服, 我想要这件.

Shoes

Use 双 for a pair of shoes: 这双鞋, 一双鞋.

General items

Use 个 for many general items when you do not know the exact measure word.
